Servings: 4

Ingredients

2 large onions, thinly sliced

2 tablespoons butter

2 tablespoons olive oil

1 tsp salt

1 tsp sugar

1 tsp dried thyme

2 cup grated Gruyère cheese

8 oz cream cheese, softened

1/2 cup mayonnaise

Chopped fresh chives (optional, for garnish)

Preparation

Preheat oven to 350º F and grease a small baking dish.

Heat a large skillet over medium-low heat.

Add the butter and olive oil to the skillet.

Once the butter has melted, add the thinly sliced onions.

Cook the onions for 3 minutes, then add salt, sugar and thyme.

In a mixing bowl, whip together cream cheese and mayonnaise until smooth.

Fold onions and Gruyère into the cream cheese and sour cream mixture, and stir until evenly distributed.

Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking dish.

Bake in the preheated oven for about 20 to 25 minutes, or until the dip is hot and bubbly and the top is lightly browned.

Optionally, garnish with chopped fresh chives for a pop of color and flavor.

Serve the caramelized onion and Gruyère dip warm with your choice of dippers, such as bread, crackers or vegetable sticks.

Garnish with chopped fresh parsley, if desired.
